Visiting Nana

My recent trip back to Iowa was a blessing in that I was able to introduce Clara to her great grandma, Nana. Nana hasn't been doing so well lately as she struggles with Alzheimers Disease. I have been really anxious to head back to Iowa and see her because I know that it wont be long before she will not remember who I am. Nana met Aiyana when she was five months old and she talks about her a lot so I wanted Nana to meet Clara while she is still capable of remembering things. I decided it was best to make my way east while I was still on maternity leave. I am so grateful that Nana got to meet Clara and that I will, some day, be able to tell Clara that she met her great grandma. During our stay, Nana always wanted to hold Clara and soothe her when she was crying. Nana's nurturing instincts kicked into high gear over the weekend and having Clara there almost brought out the youth in my grandma.

Clara's Blessing & A Navajo Tradition

Two wonderful things happened this past weekend, Clara was blessed and we returned her home in the womb back to Mother Earth.

Who Loves Our New Stroller More?

I'm in the family room nursing Clara while Aiyana carries out her typical daily activities of rearranging the contents of the drawers under the TV. A little while later I watch Aiyana pitter patter her way through the kitchen and into the formal room. At this point I cannot see her and I assume she is playing with one of her many toys that furnish that area of the house. Then I hear a familiar squeal, the kind that tells me she is frustrated with something that wont do what she wants it to do. I continue to hear her struggle, grunt, groan and protest and think to myself... "she must really be motivated in her quest to do whatever it is she wants to accomplish"... Then it is quiet... Most moms know that quiet usually means no good. So I decide I better go check it out. This is what I find...

Relief... and lots of laughter from mom. So to answer the question in my post title... SHE DOES!

Aiyana just loves going for walks in our new stroller. It's not like she never went for walks before, but I think she likes seeing Clara riding along with now. We went for a walk to the park shortly after this picture was taken. I got Aiyana out to play, but she went down the slide once and then trotted back to the stroller and held her arms up to be put back in. I'm glad she likes it as much as I do ;o)

Clara is 2 Months

Wow... time goes quickly. Clara is such a precious baby and I love her so much. Yesterday at the her wellness checkup we found out that Clara is 11 pounds 8 ounces and 24 1/2 inches long. She is in the 78th percentile for weight and the 99th percentile for height. No wonder all of her pants are too short.

It Has Come To This...

A double passenger stroller... and, oh boy, do I LOVE it. I cannot wait to try it out. This will serve as a jogging stroller as well since we don't really have the money to buy both. We plan on keeping our single jogging stroller for jogging on the mountain trails, but this one will be good for taking both kiddos out for a run in town and it will also be good for taking to the mall or zoo, etc.

This is how I will be using it for the next several months until Clara gains some head support for the front seat. The back seat also comes out so that an older child can sit on a bench in the back or else stand when he/she gets tired of walking.

Aiyana is 19 months now and it is more difficult than ever to get a good picture of her. Here's one where she actually sat still long enough for a non-blurry photo.

I had some fun with this picture using my new photo editing software.

New Collage Maker

...that was too much fun... the party AND making the collage.

Loosing my old hard drive has turned out to be not so bad after all. Now if I could just get over the fact that I lost the professional version of Adobe Photoshop when my 7 year old hard drive decided to crash on me last Sunday ;o(. I guess seven years is pretty old for a hard drive, or so I've been told by the computer tech at Staples. Since my computer took a dump I have had my files backed up and a new hard drive installed. I lost all of my old software. So after getting my computer back today, I have been installing everything I need to be up and running once again.

The positives... 1.) I have a much larger hard drive which means a lot more space for my pictures; 2.) my computer runs faster since there are not any un-used programs stalling the memory and 3.) Windows xp was re-installed so no more viruses. WOO HOO!

The downside is that I have to upload new software and learn how to use it ;o(. So one of the things I had to have was another photo collage program. Tonight I used one called Collage Maker which I downloaded for free from http://www.download.com/. I used some pictures from a recent birthday party to make the collage above. These are pictures from Dana's friend's Retro 30th Birthday Skate Party. It was a great time.

Aiyana and Clara

Aiyana went in for her 18 month check up earlier this week and my poor baby needed her second hepatitus A vaccine and a routine CBC work-up. Mommy bought her a milk shake since she had to have two pokes, poor baby. I don't mind shots as an adult, but I remember how much I feared them when I was little. She looked so sweet sipping on her tastee shake ;o)

Clara is 5 weeks old in this picture. She is such a smiley little thing. I finally caught a little grin with this photo.
