Sipping From a Straw

Aiyana learned out to sip from a straw about a month ago and ever since she loves to drink her water with a straw. I met my dad and took him out to dinner for his birthday today. We went to Aunt Chilada's and Aiyana wouldn't let go of her kiddy cup. Here's a video of her drinking from her "big girl" straw.

Painting the Kitchen

Oh how I ache... Painting sucks especially when you are pregnant, your husband is out of town and you have a one year old that gets into everything. I started my project Friday night and what a waste of time that was. I didn't mix the paint well enough and since it has been sitting for several months it needed a good mixing. I was about halfway through cutting in when I realized that the paint was going on in a faux finish sort of way. Some spots were dark, some were light. I hoped that maybe it was just the drying process and proceeded to finish the project. I was up until 11:00 pm which is late for me. This morning I woke up to the most interesting looking faux walls... not what I wanted or intended on having. If the shade were darker I might have just kept it that way, but the color was too light and it certainly didn't look purposeful. So I mixed paint like a crazy woman and started all over again. It's finally finished and my back is feeling the pain.

The results...

I still need to paint part of this wall

It's A Girl!!!

God has blessed us with another baby girl and we couldn't be more excited. Aiyana will have a little sister to grow up with and I hope they become the best of friends. 23 people guessed girl and 19 guessed boy so the majority wins. Dana thought boy and I thought girl up until the day before the ultrasound. Judging from the image of her face, I think that this little girl will look different than Aiyana. Her face looks different than Aiyana's did when I compare their ultrasound images. I cannot wait to see what she really looks like and to hold her in my arms.

Her heart rate was in the 150's

Those that guessed girl: Jeri Timmerman, Alisa Timmerman, Jenny Fairmark, Kelly Craig, Jana Downey, Mechell Blew, Amber Carlin, Lorin Cummings, Alice Barton, Dr. Jarrar, Brenda Hatch, Lorena Frietz, Ashlee Miller, Katie Ahrens, Marry Morris, Valerie Jaramillo, Sasha Saleigo, Emmy Cummings, Nicole Cummings, Grace Tonemah, Tabitha Bartels & Dr. Shindell

13 Months and Almost Walking

My baby girl is just about there... she is almost walking. I give it two weeks, but my mom says one week. Tuesday, Aiyana took several steps on her own walking from either Dana to I or me to Dana. She does really well with facing one of us and turning around to face the other one on her own. The hardest part for her is suppressing her excitement enough to concentrate on not falling. She tends to lean towards the person she is walking to. Over the weekend Aiyana stood up in the middle of the floor and started dancing to her music for quite a while, she has done this a couple of times since then.

Baby Contest

I entered Aiyana in a photo contest, but I wish it wasn't the kind where I have to solicit votes because it turns it into more of a popularity contest. I am committed to it now since I didn't know that I had to beg for votes until I submitted her picture. So here is the link if you could please vote for Aiyana ;o).

ASET 2009 Convention

This year was the American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist's 2009 Annual Meeting and it was held here at the beautiful Biltmore Hotel and Resort. This year I served as Co-chairman of the General Session which was held on Wednesday and Thursday. I had a really good time at the meeting and I met up with a lot of old friends in the field. I saw just about everyone I use to work with at the University of Iowa from Dr. Yamada to Becky Meng, Marj Tucker, Deb Humble, Pete Seaba and Jie Zhang. I took lots of pictures, but my camera wasn't working so well. I also got a picture of me with Dr. Neidermeyer which I have always wanted. To those of you who are not in EEG, Dr. Neidermeyer wrote what is known as the "Bible of EEG".

Here is a picture of Dr. Neidermeyer and I... Again my camera wasn't working so well, I used my cheap Kodak camera and the lighting was dim in the meeting hall.

One of my coworkers, Yvette, used Aiyana during her talk about tips and techniques to hook up a pediatric patient and Aiyana did such a good job. She sat playing with toys the whole time Yvette talked about her technique and applied electrodes. The only time Aiyana cried is when Yvette showed the audience how to swaddle wrap. It was perfect timing because the whole idea of her talk was to point out that kids can have fun during an EEG set up and they don't need to automatically be swaddle wrapped. Here's Aiyana in her head wrap... sometimes we tell the kids they look like Tellatubbies.

After Saturday's courses Dana, Aiyana and I took advantage of the pool at the resort and we had a lot of fun.

My Sunshine

We were in the pool for about an hour so Aiyana had some wrinkly feet...

Another First Birthday Bash

Yesterday we had a wonderful birthday celebration for Aiyana.

I made pineapple cupcakes with whipped cream cheese frosting and toasted coconut topping.

I made this decoration to hang in our entry-way for Aiyana's party.

The Birthday Girl

Aiyana had so much fun at her party. Dana and I were able to load windows live messenger on our laptop so my mom could be in on the party, usually we use the webcam on my desk computer so it was nice that we could carry the laptop around for her to see everything. My mom got to sing happy birthday with us and she watch Aiyana eat her cupcake and ice cream. Aiyana got lots of wonderful gifts and she sure is enjoying playing with all of her new toys today.
