Aiyana is 8 Months Old

...and she is sitting up all by herself now, yippie! She is posing with a plush pink teddy bear that her Nana bought for her. Aiyana is such a ham for the camera... I have trained her well ;o)

For fun I thought I would show a comparison of my 8 month picture next to Aiyana's 8 month picture. She is much cuter, but I think there is definitely some resemblance. I suppose, if I had a head full of hair we might look more alike. I wish I had a big picture of Dana at 8 months, but the baby pictures I have of him are distant shots. When Aiyana gets about toddler age I will be able to display all three of our pictures at the same age.

Fun with the Family

Aiyana had so much fun seeing her cousins up in Page this weekend. All of Dana's siblings were there with their kids so it was nice to have the entire Cummings family together at one time. On Friday we went to the park and took pictures with all 13 cousins then celebrated Tessa and Grace's Birthdays. Saturday we went four wheeling to a beautiful canyon west of Page then celebrated Dana's mom's Birthday.

As you can imagine, it was very difficult to get 11 kids and two teenagers to all look at the camera at the same time. If you've counted, you will notice that there are only 12 kids in the picture with the slide and that is because sweet little Gabrielle was not going to stand in the picture no matter what we bribed her with. Oh well, at least we got her to sit in on the one where they are all squinting from the blazing sun. Regardless of the quality, we still succeeded in getting a picture with all of them in it.

This is the canyon we saw on Saturday. We drove the quads 11 miles crossing back and forth over the Arizona and Utah border to get to this canyon and the scenery was breathtaking.

Almost Crawling

The time is growing nearer... she will be crawling soon and although I have been looking forward to this milestone, I have also been forewarned about all of the things she will be getting into. I am sad that our little Aiyana is growing so fast, but I am happy to see her developing and learning so well. Sometimes I will lay her on the floor and just watch her as she rolls around the room and tries to get those chubby legs to fold under her belly. Right now she is scooting a lot and she can roll herself to any destination... just give her open space and there is no telling how far she will go. Gone are the days of leaving her on the changing table for a brief second so that I can reach over to her closet. The other day I caught her rolling on her side and hanging her head and left leg over the edge seemingly contemplating a free-fall to the ground. Oh and I must add that her new favorite thing is to hang upside down. If someone is holding her she will occassionally thrust her body backward and hang her head upside down. In fact, if she is in a crabby mood, I sometimes just hang her by her feet for a moment and she starts giggling... silly girl.

By the way... Don't you just love her morning hairdo in the picture with the pink outfit? No problems with volume in this little girl's hair.

12. My cell phone... drops calls in my house and it drives me nuts.

13. When I wake up in the morning... I am either happy because it is the weekend and I have the whole day to play with Aiyana or I am bummed because I have to wait eight hours, through work, before I can play with her.

14. Right now I am thinking about... finishing this before the missionaries get here.

15. Before I go to bed... I clean bottles, play with Aiyana, cook dinner, feed the dog, eat, give Aiyana a bath, feed her, tuck her in bed, clean the kitchen, prepare bottles for Daycare, check my mail... goodnight.

Weekend Happenings

I put together a collage of some fun pictures I took of Aiyana this weekend. I think she's getting sick again. We went to a Hawaiian Festival at Tempe Town Lake today and her eye's watered and her nose was runny the whole time we were there. My poor baby. She really enjoyed tasting my Hawaiian Shaved Ice, though, once she got past how cold it was on her lips.

Aiyana is changing before my very eyes. This weekend I have heard so much baby babble from her. It is quite entertaining because she really sounds like she might be forming some words. Earlier this week I heard her say "da, da, da" as opposed to the usual "ma, ma, ma". Needless to say, Dad is very happy about this. Today I found her sound asleep in her play saucer with the usual, left fingers in her mouth and right arm over her eyes. She has been covering her eyes when she is tired since she was a couple of months old. I guess this goes to show that Aiyana can sleep just about anywhere... except daycare of course. I have also noticed that Aiyana is enjoying her bath a lot more now. She has always seemed to like taking baths, but lately she is more interested in her bath toys and now she will splash the water with her feet. I have been teaching her how to float in the water ever since she was a few months old by holding her shoulders and letting her float on her back. Yesterday I turned her over and she held on to the side of her tub and floated on her tummy all by herself. I am preparing her to be a "Lake Powell Baby" since we will be camping up there in the summers. I hope that Aiyana will learn to enjoy the water as much as Dana and I do.

As for me... I am a tad bit obsessed with Adobe Photoshop, I confess. I could spend hours playing with photos and digitally enhancing them. My most recent project... I turned one of Aiyana's bath photos into a black and white and then colored in her eyes with a sample of blue that I took from her eyes in the same photo. I am such a sucker for photography. Aiyana is my favorite subject... Can you tell?

I am officially almost out of my frozen milk supply and I am feeling very sad about the fact that I may not be able to continue nursing Aiyana much longer. Originally I had planned to nurse her until she was a year old, but when I went back to work I realized that it was going to be difficult to keep up with it. I guess I should feel good about doing it for this long. My new goal is to keep nursing her until she is eight months and I will decide then if I can keep doing it. What I will miss most is nursing her in the mornings before I have to go to work; it is a nice time to sit peacefully and just admire her.

One of my fondest nursing moments was the time I nursed Aiyana at the top of Piestewa Peak. Three months after she was born we climbed to the summit of Piestewa Peak and I nursed her at the top of the mountain. Unfortunately... we forgot to bring a clean diaper with us, but if we had one we would have changed her diaper at the top too ;o)

Bring in the Rock

Today we made major progress in our backyard. During the week Dana finished the sprinkler system and leveled the rock beds and today we had a lot of help pouring rock. A big thank you to Olin (Dana's dad), Travis and Chris (Dana's brothers) and my dad for helping us cover up more dirt. They all took turns hauling 12 tons of rock into our backyard. In this picture you can see our new walkway from the front yard to the back; part of our rock bed that runs the perimeter of our yard and our dads, Olin and Rusty, hard at work.

She Still Hates Peas

Don't most babies hate peas? I have never liked peas despite all of my mom's attempts to get me to enjoy them. I never acquired a taste for them like my mom said that I would. It looks like my daughter is following in my footsteps. I took these pictures of Aiyana at 5 months old to show her first taste of peas and it is clear, by the look on her face, that she thinks they are a far cry from palatable. Tonight I captured her on camera trying to choke down some more peas. I am still not giving up because I know that they are good for her, but I can't help but sympathize. How can I make her eat something that I wont?

Aiyana is 7 Months Old

My baby girl is growing so fast. After Aiyana was born I decided that I would take pictures of her each month until she turns 1 year old. I went with a spring theme for her 7 month photos and I captured some cute shots with her in a wicker basket.
